I met a gentleman named Ruben Dickens at a car show a few weeks ago. Ruben lives in the small town of Mamers, North Carolina. In fact, but his address is Lillington, NC. We have a lot of small towns and communities like Mamers in North Carolina and we are proud of every one of them. I was also raised in one of them, Crisp, North Carolina.
Ruben is a very nice guy and owns a beautiful 1969 Camaro RS. I asked him if he would be willing to share some information about his car with us. He agreed and I think you will enjoy his story and the pictures of his Camaro.
I have always loved Camaros. I’ve been fortunate to own a few – one 1978 when I was in high school and two 1968s – one of which I sold before restoration was complete and the other that I fully restored and sold. I finally found a 1969 Rally Sport that I could restore which is what I always dreamed of owning. I purchased this 1969 in 2005 and began restoration in 2006. I finished the restoration by the end of 2009. Of course the process is really never finished.
Having friends who could do what I couldn’t made the whole restoration complete. Everything except the roof of the car has been replaced or restored. I know it is not all perfect, but it is close enough for me.
It will never be a 100 point car, but that’s okay with me because I restored it to enjoy it and to share it with others who enjoy Camaros and restoring cars.
Well, I think all of us can agree that Ruben’s car does not have to be a 100 point car to be beautiful. I enjoy meeting folks like Ruben and helping him share his experience with good folks like you. I hope you enjoyed this and if you want more articles like this please leave your comments to let me know. I want to provide what you want to read.
